Webster Club

Debate, Forensics, & Mock Trial at Marquette University High School

Roster and Accomplishments From The 1973-1974 Season

The 1973-1974 season brought more success to Marquette University High School as the Webster Club again claimed the National Forensic League National Championship.

There has never in history been a more successful high school team than the Marquette University High School Forensics Squad - the Webster Club. In 1970, they won the National Catholic Forensic League national championship. In 1971, they became the first team in history to win both the NCFL and the National Forensic League national championships. They repeated as double national champions in 1972 and 1973.

One man made all this unprecedented, unequalled success possible. He came to us after coaching Battle Creek, Michigan High School and Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School to national championship levels. Here at The High he also teaches economics. We are happy to dedicate this yearbook to Marquette High’s most successful coach ever, Mr. James M. Copeland!

“Let your conscience be your guide, boys.”
