Webster Club

Debate, Forensics, & Mock Trial at Marquette University High School

The Forensics Program

Technically, forensics is the art or study of formal debate or argumentation. As a result, the entire Webster Club participates in “forensics.” For our purposes, however, forensics is comprised of two types of events: public speaking and interpretation/acting. Members of the forensics team compete at local, state, regional, and national tournaments where they strive for both individual and team awards. The Webster Club participates in three forensic organizations: the Wisconsin Forensic Coaches’ Association, the National Catholic Forensic League, and the National Forensic League.

The forensics team participates in a plethora of categories/events and students are generally free to select the one they find most desirable. The coaching staff will have the final say on all decisions, however, and students may be required to participate in their second or third choice of category. Forensic events can be broadly divided into two groups: public speaking and interpretation/acting.
