Both members of Marquette University High School’s top 2006-2007 policy debate team cleared to the elimination rounds of the University of Michigan’s Summer Institute Tournament this past week. Senior Gaurav Bhatnagar and his partner Josh Waizer (Edgemont, NY) accumulated a 5-1 preliminary round record and won their double-octafinals round before dropping to Senior Nolan Wanecke and his partner Matt Senghas (Burlington, VT) in the octafinals. Nolan and Matt eventually lost in the quarterfinals to Simi Chaudhry (Pace Academy, GA) and Will Sabransky (New Trier, IL). Gaurav and Nolan spent the past seven weeks in Ann Arbor studying debate at the University of Michigan’s Seven Week Seniors program and will open their senior seasons at Marquette this September.
